Our Features and Programs

What will the community consist of? Here's some features and programs. Also it shows how we might legally structure the entire community.

  1. Intentional community (ecovillage).
Our group of people living in the community regularly. A growing ecovillage committed to living and demonstrating ecological sustainability and matriarchy. It will have residences and also shared facilities such as a community kitchen. (Possibly set up legally as a “community cooperative” or "LLC" since a non-profit probably might not be possible since we'd collect donations to build buildings for common use among our residents. We're considering legal entities).

  2. An Educational Center called “The Learning Center” (TLC).
A place to teach classes in sustainability and female leadership. Some classes would be on organic gardening, renewable energy, biodiesel, creative expression, recycling & composting, natural building, feminism/matriarchy, etc. Some classes will be just for females such as a carpentry for women class, self defense for women, women in art and history, and programs for strengthening the confidence of females. It will also house our library of books and other media on various subjects. (This could be set up legally as a 501c3 non-profit organization.)

  3. Conference Center.
We may have a meeting room for organizations/groups that have similar interests as us. They may use our meeting room for a small fee. Or meet outside for free….some groups can take advantage of an outdoor covered platform as well as finding natural meeting spots in our meadow, by the creek, and in the woods.

  4. Overnight Retreat. (maybe)
Stay overnight in our B&B or stay with one of our residents for a fee.

  5. Botanical Nature Center.
Nature-study opportunities appropriate to all ages.
    - The creation of ecologically focused programs, walks, nature hikes, and other opportunities for nature observation and study.
    - Nature trail development
    - The development of interpretive materials (especially signs and booklets) about our land's natural history: plants/trees/flowers, animals (from birds to amphibians, insects, and everything in between), species relationships, food webs, seasonal cycles, human interactions, etc.
    - Natural resource conservation and protection. The nature center promotes honoring nature and protecting the environment.
(This could be set up legally as a 501c3 non-profit organization.)

  6. Others: 3 week visitor program, maybe a newsletter, community festivals, clubs & organizations at the village, community businesses and members' businesses, online store, maybe an educational exchange program with a local college, workstudy, people focused on encouraging donations and getting grants, a CSA organic garden (community shared agriculture), etc. In addition, we may look into setting up a tax exempt ‘land trust' to protect certain parts of the land from development.
